Frequently Asked Questions

What's in Frank's Fresh recipes?

Frank's Fresh is based on real nutrition and whole foods, with no synthetic vitamins or cheap fillers. For example, where other "fresh" foods services might use zinc citrate, Frank's Fresh recipes use oysters and pumpkin seeds to provide zinc. Our recipes include a variety of fruits and vegetables to provide necessary nutrients for dogs, paired with proteins. Our recipes are based on a 60% fresh-weight protein ratio, with fruits, vegetables, and grains (not exceeding 10%) balancing out the bowl. Most fruits and vegetables used in our recipes are organic.

Are Frank's Fresh recipes 'complete and balanced'?

The 'complete and balanced' designation in dog food basically means that enough synthetic vitamins have been mixed in to theoretically meet a dog's needs for those vitamins at levels determined by AAFCO (the regulatory body which oversees animal and livestock feed). Because we don't use synthetics - and instead rotate a variety of human grade proteins, fruits and vegetables to supply a balance of necessary nutrients over time - we are unable to use that phrasing. Instead, we use fresh produce and whole foods supplementation (sardines for omega-3, and pumpkin seeds for magnesium, for example). Rest assured, Frank's Fresh human-grade recipes are filled with high quality, organic ingredients to support optimal health.

Where do you deliver?

Our delivery area covers the Roaring Fork Valley, from Aspen to Glenwood Springs. If you're a bit farther away (say, Eagle County), give us a holler and we can likely work something out.

When do you deliver?

We deliver each Thursday for orders received by the previous Saturday. Need it sooner? No problem - leave us a note and we'll get it to you ASAP.

How do I know how much to order?

Many customers find that their dogs eat about the same quantity of Frank's Fresh dog food as they did with their previous diet. For example, if your dog is eating 2 cups per day (one cup in the morning and one in the evening), it's likely your dog will also eat 2 cups per day of Frank's Fresh. You'll find a feeding chart based on body weight on both the Products and How It Works pages as a guide; should you need a little help, please reach out!

What can I expect on delivery day?

You'll receive a delivery and bag pick up reminder the day before with approximate times of delivery in your area of the Roaring Fork Valley. Orders are dropped off at your door; food is delivered frozen and in reusable Frank's Fresh cooler bags. We will pick up cooler bags on the next delivery day, or the following week if you do not have a future delivery scheduled.

How is Frank's Fresh Dog Food packaged?

Frank's Fresh recipes are packaged in recyclable kraft paper containers and are offered in 1LB (approximately 2.25 cups) and 2LB (approx. 4 cups) sizes. Food is delivered frozen in reusable Frank's Fresh cooler bags.

What are my delivery options?

You can choose a one-time purchase or a subscription. Subscription orders are delivered every two weeks or once per 28-day cycle. We charge a $10 fee per delivery.

How are Frank's Fresh recipes formulated?

The basis for our recipes were created under the supervision of an animal science doctor, and using guides created by certified canine nutritionists. Our recipes are formulated to ensure the inclusion of critical nutrients such as calcium, vitamins B, A and E, iodine, and omegas 3 and 6.

How it all began

At seven years old, Frank needed a TPLO (doggy ACL) surgery. Not long after, the other joint began to fail. While we'd begun exploring fresher food option in the years prior, we wondered if these costly surgeries could have been prevented by taking care of his connective tissue and whole-body health with a nutritious fresh food diet, instead of starchy kibble.

That's when we made the switch, and Frank, in his middle age, became a new dog.

We immediately noticed a difference in his coat (So soft! So shiny!) and energy levels (puppy-era zoomies!). Considering this change, we shouldn't have been surprised - we all feel better when eating fresh, biologically appropriate food.

After finding the majority of "fresh" dog food to be filled with synthetic vitamins and low quality ingredients (not to mention the plastic packaging and a growing stack of cardboard boxes after delivery), we went all in on making the highest quality dog food available here in the Roaring Fork Valley. Meghan worked through a rigorous year-long canine education nutrition program, creating nutritious canine-appropriate recipes while earning a certificate in Feline and Canine Nutrition.

We know that diet is the driver of good health, and our products reflect a mission to support quality and longevity in our pets' lives.

No synthetic vitamins. No low-quality fillers. No plastic packaging.

Just protein-packed, human-grade, whole food nutrition.
